The late Jim Aiken is set to be honoured at this year's Meteor Ireland Music Awards for his contribution to the Irish music industry spanning four decades.

On Friday, the family of the former music promoter and founder of Aiken Promotions, who died of cancer in March last year, will be presented with the Industry Award on his behalf at the RDS in Dublin.

Considered a leading light in the Irish music industry for 40 years after giving up his job as a teacher in 1965 to focus on music promotion, Mr Aiken was known for his humour and generosity, earning himself the monicker "gentleman Jim" among his friends.

Responsible for bringing big acts such as Bruce Springsteen, Pavarotti, Bob Dylan and Justin Timberlake to Ireland, he also organised concerts held at Stormont in Northern Ireland attracting Elton John, The Eagles and Rod Stewart.

Rock legends including Bruce Springsteen and Sir Paul McCartney were among those who paid tribute to Mr Aiken following his death.

Country music singer Garth Brooks, dancer Michael Flatley and show business mogul Louis Walsh attended Mr Aiken's funeral service in Belfast.
