The German Chancellor, Dr Helmut Kobl, is to pay a two day official visit to Ireland in October at the invitation of the Taoiseach.
On what is seen as a very significant visit, Dr Kohl will have talks with Mr Bruton about Ireland's presidency of the European Union, as well as its chairing of the Union's Inter Governmental Conference for the second half of this year.
