Kildare sheep sample tested for virus

Samples taken from a sheep at a Kildare processing plant today will be tested for the foot-and-mouth virus as a precaution.

Samples taken from a sheep at a Kildare processing plant today will be tested for the foot-and-mouth virus as a precaution.

The sheep which orginated from a farm in Co Offaly had lesions in its mouth. The animal has been slaughtered and the processing plant closed.

The samples will be sent to the Pirbright laboratory in England and results are expected next week.
