Richard Dunne has been called up to the Republic of Ireland squad for Wednesday's friendly international with Norway at Lansdowne Road.

Manager Brian Kerr has turned to the Manchester City defender as cover for Andy O'Brien who withdrew over the weekend after breaking a nose in Newcastle's win over Sunderland.

Kerr, who must also do without Gary Kelly (shin splints) and Gary Doherty (knee), also has concerns over captain Kenny Cunningham (groin).

John O'Shea picked up a knee injury in Manchester United's 2-0 win at Tottenham yesterday and will sit out today's training session at Tolka Rovers' ground.

Matt Holland (knee) also sits out the session while Stephen Carr, who was last night named on the PFA team of the year does likewise after picking up a back niggle against Manchester United yesterday.
