A judge yesterday refused to renew the drinks licence of a hotel-pub in Malahide, Co Dublin, because it failed to deal with noise problems.

Judge Peter Smithwick, the President of the District Court, said the operators of Maud Plunkett's in Grove Road should not have presumed locals would put up with extra noise when the owners turned it into a late-night bar.

Mr Seamus Nolan and Mr Zack Donohue, as Derrygale Ltd, leased the premises in 1995. A 14-day stay was given on the order, to allow for an appeal.
