Judge convicts 13 people involved in family feud

THIRTEEN PEOPLE involved in a family feud, who pleaded guilty to violent disorder at St Joseph’s pre-natal clinic in Longford town in September 2009, were convicted by Judge Rory McCabe at Longford Circuit Court yesterday.

The judge who initially handed down prison sentences to two women and one man, decided to remand them on bail and then ordered that a probation report be carried out to determine their suitability for community service.

Desmond Dockery, barrister, told the court that Sylvia Gavin (30), Martin Gavin (30), Cindy Duignan (27), Teresa “Baby T” (Stokes) Dinnegan (24), Raymond Duignan (29), Nancy Gavin, Thomas McDonagh (28), Anthony Nevin, John Nevin (31), Michael Nevin, Ellen Nevin (50), John Duignan (33) and Michael Ward (39) became involved in a “fracas” at the clinic on September 15th, 2009.

“It all came about as a result of a dispute between the Nevin and Stokes families,” Mr Dockery said.
