An English jewellery firm has brought High Court proceedings claiming it paid €104,000 to a firm in Dublin for a quantity of gold, but a package was later switched leaving it with a “virtually worthless” material.

Stirling Jewellers (Dudley) Ltd has secured an interim order restraining Peter Osa-Amadasun and Nike Lorna Osa-Amadasun, trading as PE Eamsons Business Services, North King Street, Dublin, reducing accounts below €104,000.

The order, returnable to today, was granted by Ms Justice Mary Laffoy. In an affidavit, Sharna Ragonesi, a Stirling director, said it had a verbal contract with the defendants, of Allendale Drive, Clonsilla, for purchase of 2,900 grams of gold.
