A Japanese electronics company will create 140 jobs in an expansion of its factory in Millstreet, Co Cork.

A Japanese electronics company will create 140 jobs in an expansion of its factory in Millstreet, Co Cork.

Alps Electric is to invest €14 million in its car components manufacturing facility in Millstreet which will account for 60 per cent of the company's European capacity when completed.

"This €14 million investment, which will create 140 new jobs over the next five years, bring the entire operation to a higher level increasing the technical sophistication, skills profile, product range and manufacturing capacity of the Millstreet facility," the Minister for Enterprise Trade and Employment, Michael Martin said today.

Alps Electric (Ireland), was established in 1988 and employs 410 people making electronic heating/air conditioning controllers, door modules, light switch systems and other electronic car parts.

The new jobs will be in enegineering and general manufactuiring and recruitment will be staggered  over the next five years.

Alps Electric employs over 32,000 people worldwide in 24 factories. For the year ended March 2005 it recorded a net profit of €121 million and revenues of €4.8 billion.
