Israeli and Palestinian security chiefs agreed today to deploy additional Palestinian forces in the Gaza Strip to prevent militant attacks, a Palestinian official said.

The agreement, after a two-hour meeting, means the Palestinians would deploy forces in addition to those stationed in northern Gaza, extending their control to the central and southern parts of the coastal strip, the official said.
