An Irishman who confessed to the murder of a New Zealand ship captain in Thailand appealed for help yesterday as he was remanded in custody to await trial.
Mr Colin Martin (36), with an address in Carrickmacross, Co Monaghan, has been moved to Chonburi prison in eastern Thailand. The former job agency manager claims that the murder victim, Mr Brett Holdsworth, and colleagues tricked him and dozens of British shipyard workers out of their savings.
Mr Martin said at Chonburi prison yesterday: "I did not mean to kill him. But two years of rage had built up inside me. This man and his colleague ruined my life. I saw red. I just laid into him. I did not realise I had a knife."
He said he had no money and was appealing for help to the other people who were "tricked out of their savings".
