DR RUTH Barrington has been appointed as chair of The Irish Times Trust

DR RUTH Barrington has been appointed as chair of The Irish Times Trust. She succeeds Prof David McConnell on his retirement from the position.

Dr Barrington has been a member of The Irish Times Trust since May 2002 and of the board of The Irish Times Ltd since January 2008. She is chief executive of Molecular Medicine Ireland and formerly chief executive of the Health Research Board.

She is a graduate of UCD, the College of Europe in Belgium and the London School of Economics. She is the author of Health, Medicine and Politics in Ireland 1900-1970 and holds an honorary degree in laws from the National University of Ireland, Maynooth.

Dr McConnell, a professor of genetics at Trinity College Dublin, became a governor of the trust and joined the board of The Irish Times Ltd in 2000. He has been chairman of The Irish Times Trust since 2002.
