The Irish junior surf team has finished seventh in the World Junior Surfing Championships in Durban, South Africa.

In yesterday's team event, contested by seventeen nations, Ireland pulled off an outstanding result by beating one of the biggest surfing nations in the world, the United States, along with many other nations that would have traditionally finished ahead of Ireland.

In the individual events, Ollie O'Flaherty of Lahinch finished 45th and Stephen Kilfeather from Sligo was 28th in the Under 16 Division.

Paul McLoughlin from Nenagh finished 45th and Cain Kilcullen of Enniscrone finished 33rd in the Under 18 Division.
