Train services to start using Phoenix Park tunnel next week

New rail routes follow €13.7m investment from the National Transport Authority

The National Transport Authority (NTA) previously announced plans to start passenger services to connect the city’s two main stations through the 138-year-old tunnel line between Connolly and Heuston. The journey would take about eight minutes.

New rail commuter services using the Phoenix Park Tunnel line will start operating next Monday.

Iarnród Éireann said services connecting stations between Newbridge and Parkwest with Connolly to Grand Canal Dock will start on Monday, November 21st.

The introduction of the services follows an investment of €13.7 million in upgrading the Phoenix Park Tunnel route, funded by the National Transport Authority.

A small number of minor alterations to other services to/from Heuston will also take effect from this date, and the final schedules have been approved by the National Transport Authority following public consultation.

Seven new morning peak trains to Grand Canal Dock, and eight new evening peak trains from Grand Canal Dock begin Monday, November21st , with limited stop services in the opposite direction.
