An examination of an old bomb, found in Kildare town on Wednesday, is underway today.

A man found the 18 pound explosive, thought to be of English origin, in his garden in Blackmiller Hill at around 3.30pm on Wednesday afternoon.

Gardaí alerted the Army bomb disposal unit, and residents were evacuated, briefly, as a precaution.

The Defence Forces advises members of the public who come across artillery remains from conflicts in the early 20th century, to keep a safe distance, and to inform the Garda.
