Man killed in farming accident in Co Cork

Postmortem due on body of 26-year-old victim after fatal incident involving bailer

Gardaí and the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) have begun separate investigations into the death of a 26-year-old man in a farming accident near Clonakilty in west Cork last night.

He was carrying out repairs on a bailer at the family farm near Lyre, north of Clonakility, when the accident happened and he was fatally injured.

The man was discovered by his father just before 1am after his family had become concerned when he hadn’t returned home and the emergency services were alerted.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was removed to Cork University Hospital for a postmortem examination later today.

Gardaí say they are treating the man’s death as a tragic accident and will prepare a file on the accident for an inquest at the coroner’s court while the HSA is also investigating the tragedy.
