Maíria Cahill Timeline

August 1997: Alleged 12- month cycle of sex abuse by IRA member when Maíria Cahill was aged 16 begins. 1998: Ms Cahill complains of alleged abuse to four republican women.

1999: Ms Cahill says the IRA questioned her for months about the abuse allegations.

March 2000: She says she was brought face to face with her alleged abuser.

2000: IRA cannot decide who is telling the truth. Alleged abuser flees North. 2000-2006: Ms Cahill says she had a number of meetings with Gerry Adams about the alleged abuse.


January 2010: Ms Cahill gives anonymous interview to Sunday Tribune.

April 2010: Ms Cahill makes statements to PSNI about alleged rapist and alleged IRA "interrogators".

2014: In April and May, separate cases against the alleged rapist and questioners collapse after Ms Cahill withdraws evidence. Prosecution tells court she was in "fear" of testifying against the alleged rapist.

October 14th, 2014: Ms Cahill appeared on BBC Spotlight programme and made IRA rape and "interrogation" allegations.

October 14th-present: Mr Adams disputes parts of Ms Cahill's account of meetings with him, while Sinn Féin rejects allegation of republican cover-up of IRA sex abuse. Ms Cahill says more victims of alleged IRA sexual predators have told her of similar experiences.

Today: Ms Cahill meeting Taoiseach, following meeting with First Minister Peter Robinson on Monday.
