Decapitated dog found in bin shed in south Dublin

Gardaí and DSPCA start investigation after body of large, tan, bull terrier discovered

The body of a large bull terrier dog was found decapitated in a bin shed beside apartments in south Dublin, the Dublin Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (DSPCA) has said.

The society received a call from a member of the public on Monday alerting them to the body of the dog.

When they attended the scene they found the large, tan, un-neutered bull terrier.

His head was not with the rest of his body and has not yet been found. It is not clear if the dog was dead prior to being decapitated but it is believed the animal had been dead for no more than two days.

The animal's remains were removed to the DSPCA shelter in Rathfarnham where they were examined by DSPCA veterinary team.

The DSPCA and gardaí at Clondalkin Garda station have started a full investigation .

A microchip was found in the remains which will assist the investigation.

The DSPCA is calling for the public to provide any details or information that may assist in their enquiries.

“We know that the animal was not killed or decapitated at the place it was found and there is evidence that it was brought there in a vehicle and dragged a short distance to where it was dumped,” a spokesman for the DSPCA said.

“We really need to find out what happened to this poor animal. It is a disgraceful way to treat any animal and the fact that its head is missing is even more disturbing.”

The spokesman has appealed for people with information to contact the DSPCA inspectors on 01 4994727 or Clondalkin Garda station.
