Iran's top nuclear negotiator said today a Russian proposal to solve its nuclear standoff was useful but that further talk was needed.

Ali Larijani, who is on a one-day visit to China, said the Chinese and Iranian viewpoints on the issue were very close and that it should be resolved in a peaceful manner.

Russia has proposed that Iranian uranium be enriched on Russian soil - a compromise backers say would give Iran nuclear power but restrain any moves to make weapons.
