London - A Canadian Interpol fugitive who fled to Britain to escape a multi-million dollar theft investigation has been jailed for life for murdering a man and assuming his identity to create a new life for himself.

Albert Walker, a financier, was found guilty of murdering an electrical engineer, Ronald Platt, in July 1996. He had denied the murder. A court in Essex heard that Walker threw Mr Platt (51) unconscious into the sea from his yacht off south Devon, weighed down with a 10-pound anchor in his belt.

Walker (52) killed Platt, a business associate, after obtaining his identity papers. He did so to preserve the double life he had lived for six years.
