Intel and Network Appliance have announced a billion dollar technology pact that builds on the two firms' technology alliance dating from 1992.

According to reports in Newsbytes today, the linkup will see Network Appliance sourcing Intel silicon and other products for use in its data management products.

At the same time, Intel has agreed to source Network Appliance systems for use in its growing network of data centers around the world.

Network Appliance's is best known for its internet caching devices. In May of last year, the firm unveiled the NetCache C1100, its first Internet caching device for companies and smaller Internet service providers (ISPs).

Intel is also looking to sell Network Appliance's systems through its Web site, as part of the seven-year deal.
