Inland Fisheries Ireland is investigating a “significant fish kill” on the Bandon river in Co Cork.
The agency says that more than 350 salmon and trout were found dead over a one-mile stretch of the river, following a report from a member of the public late last week.
Most of the fish were in an “advanced state of decomposition”, the agency says. Fisheries board head of operations Dr Greg Forde warned that river fish populations were particularly vulnerable during the summer, and there had been three fish kills in the Cork and Kerry area this summer.
