A verdict of death by misadventure was recorded at the inquest on a Co Fermanagh man who was reported missing but later found dead in a laneway just 150 yards from where he was last seen.

Mr Paul McQuaid (25) from Irvingstown, Co Fermanagh, was found dead in a privately-owned laneway off Wicklow Street, Dublin, on May 30th last year.

Dublin City Coroner's Court heard the Deputy State Pathologist, Dr Marie Cassidy, believed Mr McQuaid's body may have fallen from the protruding ladder of a fire escape which gave access to the laneway from nearby buildings.

The inquest jury added a rider to the verdict recommending that regular safety checks be carried out on all such fire escapes to ensure they are operating properly and are in the proper operating position.
