The inquest into the death of schoolgirl Rebekah Kiely (15), who died after she was struck by a baseball bat, has been adjourned at Dublin City Coroner's Court. The adjournment was sought pending the outcome of a court case next January in relation to the incident in which the teenager suffered fatal injuries.

Insp Peter Hughes of Blanchardstown Garda station yesterday told the coroner, Dr Brian Farrell, that a case in relation the incident that led to to Ms Kiely's death is listed for hearing in the Dublin District Court on January 31st. Dr Farrell adjourned the inquest into Ms Kiely's death until February 1st following a request by counsel for the Kiely family, Michael Finucane.

The Junior Cert student died from massive head injuries in Beaumont Hospital in Dublin on November 24th, 2006, two weeks after being hit on the head near the sports grounds Old Navan Road, Dublin on November 10th.

Two men were later charged over the incident, but one of them has since died.
