Kerry’s Liam Hassett has been ruled out of this year’s championship after he ruptured a tendon in his knee while playing in a club match last night.

Hassett, who captained the Kerry team to All-Ireland victory in 1997, will undergo surgery at St James’ Hostpital in Dublin later today.

Hassett received an All Star award last year for his inspirational performances in guiding Kerry to All-Ireland success.

The Saint Annes clubman could be out of the game for up to sixmonths.
