Boy released on bike-theft charge

A 16-year-old boy, who was arrested for stealing a motorcycle, was yesterday released from custody but was ordered to obey a curfew to stay in his home at night and to get alcohol addiction treatment.

The teenager was charged at the Dublin Children's Court with theft of a motorbike on December 21st.

The appeal for him to be ordered to get help for his drinking came from his mother.

He had been remanded in custody over Christmas after a parent failed to attend with him at his court appearance on December 22nd.

Judge David Anderson granted bail yesterday releasing the north inner city Dublin boy, who was supported in court by his mother.

He agreed to a request from prosecuting Garda John Dolan, of Store Street station, to impose a number of strict bail conditions on the boy.

These included a curfew compelling the boy to be in his home from 9pm to 7am and a condition ordering him to remain sober at all times.

He also directed the teenager to take part in a training course as part of his bail terms.

The boy is to appear in court again in three weeks time.
