If Indy Car Racing, Geoff Crammonds Grand Prix 2 or Nascar Racing seem like just too much trouble, Ignition might be the answer to your wishes. Unlike the aforementioned games it has no time for brake-balance, downforce or any of those technical matters. With Ignition, it's straight into the action from the word go.

Your view of the action is somewhat like Micro Machines. There are seven tracks to race on. Some downtown, while others over mountain paths, canyons, seasides and even temples.

There are 11 vehicles to choose from although initially there are only seven available. These include Jungle Jeeps, VW beetles and even a school bus.

You can race in championship, single race, time trial and pursue modes. After completing three laps in time trial you get to race your own "ghost car". In pursue mode, the last car is eliminated after each lap. The race continues in this vein until there is a winner.

All of the tracks feature shortcuts and secrets for quicker lap times - for example, on the Cape Thor track if you have enough speed you can aim straight at instead of taking a right at the volcano you should fly straight over it, saving yourself valuable seconds.

You will have to be careful also as opponents will often try to nudge you over cliffs and the like. You can, of course, sink to their level.

While there is nothing outstanding about Ignition, it's a nice game to have if you just want a quick blast - Screamer 2 would be my choice if push came to shove.
