Around 100 workers laid off following the closure of Irish Fertiliser Industries (IFI) travel to London today to protest at the offices of the company's co-owners Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI).

Workers from the three IFI plants in Belfast, Arklow and Cobh say the company is still vaible and are angered by the level of redundancy payments on offer and the low value of their pensions. A delegation also hopes to meet the Lord Mayor of London, Ken Livingston.

The State holds a 51 per cent stake in the company, while ICI owns the balance. Over 600 jobs will be lost due to the closure.
