THE Irish Congress of Trade Unions has 215,000 members in Northern Ireland through 30 affiliated unions.

There is almost 100 per cent unionisation of the public sector there, while the figure for the private sector is around 35 per cent. This is a similar pattern to the Republic.

The most highly unionised companies in the private sector are in industries such as manufacturing, engineering and textiles.

The Northern Ireland Committee is responsible for the formation and implementation of ICTU policy on pay and other industrial relations issues in the North.
