Mexico City - Hurricane Linda, one of the mightiest storms ever seen in the Pacific, was raging off the Mexican coast yesterday and some forecasters feared it could pose a danger to California. Linda, packing winds of 160 to 190 miles per hour off Mexico's Pacific Coast, was deemed by the US National Weather Service the strongest hurricane ever recorded in the Eastern Pacific.

Some meteorologists said there was a danger it could become the first in history to hit California's coastline, although other storm-watchers said the danger was slight. Meteorologists said the storm system was moving north-west at about nine miles per hour, and could reach California on Monday at the earliest, if it reaches there at all.
