Hungerford, Berkshire - The mayor of Hungerford yesterday defended the town's decision not to hold a service to mark the 10th anniversary of the massacre in which 16 people were killed. Mr Paul Cable said a service would not be welcome because of the press and media attention which would descend upon the town.
The council has been criticised for being "embarrassed" about what happened a decade ago when Michael Ryan carried out the massacre and then killed himself. - (PA)
