LARNACA - A Cypriot charged with giving his British lover the HIV virus has admitted to having unprotected sex with her by mistake, but blamed her for his blunder. "I insisted on putting on a condom because of my problem but she was against it," Mr Pavlos Georgiou, who is HIV positive, testified to a Cypriot court yesterday. "She had a weakness for free sex," he said.

Mr Georgiou (40), from the coastal resort of Ayia Napa, has been charged with negligently transmitting the HIV virus which causes AIDS to Ms Janette Pink (45). He denies the charge in the first such case in Cyprus.
