A Gambian national who worked as "a sole trader" selling heroin he bought in Amsterdam in Dublin city centre has been jailed for 18 months by Judge Des Hogan.

Suyayman Jaiteh had heroin worth €15,800 in total in his flat, along with a 9mm Smith and Wesson revolver, 19 live cannisters of CS gas and one spent cannister, and two pepper sprays.

He was arrested after trying to sell the drug to undercover gardai operating in the Grafton Street - St Stephen's Green area.

Jaiteh (32), of York Road, Ringsend, pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of heroin for sale or supply and four charges under the Firearms and Offensive Weapons Act on May 1st, 2002. He had no previous convictions.

Garda Colm Fitzgerald agreed with Mr David Goldberg SC, for Jaiteh, that the Smith and Wesson was designed for shooting gas. The cannisters had gas which resembled tear gas that was made to debilitate and irritate and would turn into vapour when fired.
