Eighth seed Justine Henin is safely through to the US Open second round after thrashing American Samantha Reeves 6-1 6-2 today.
The Belgian’s preparations for the tournament had been hampered by a fractured finger but she showed no signs of the injury and easily outclassed her opponent.
Henin will play either Zimbabwe's Cara Black or Argentine Ma Emilia Salerni in the next round.
