Teresa O'Hara is staying at the Village for a few months of respite care after she hurt her hip in a fall.
Having stayed in and visited other nursing homes in the past, she appreciates the space, quietness and privacy at the Village, which is more like a country house hotel than a nursing care facility.
Although she is looking forward to going home to her own apartment in Salthill, Teresa is making the most of her time at the Village. She gets her hair and nails done regularly in the centre's hair and beauty salon, has physiotherapy on her hip and enjoys watching "pictures" in the cinema upstairs.
"There's company here, the other patients are very nice and the staff are lovely and friendly - they can't do enough for you. We are very well looked after, we need for nothing. Visitors can come at any time, there are no visiting hours and they can book a meal in the restaurant," she says.
From her pleasant private en-suite room, with its contemporary decor, plasma TV and fridge, Teresa can look out onto a private patio area where her grandchildren play when they come to visit.
Teresa lived abroad for many years in Africa and the Middle East, as her late husband Paddy worked for the colonial civil service, but they moved back to Galway to raise their three sons.
