Vox Pop: would you take a contraceptive pill, injection or implant?
Peter Atkins, Dublin:
Well, I have a poor sex life at the moment so it wouldn't affect me. But I suppose I would consider it. I think it's good that people are trying to introduce it.
Traditionally, it's always been the woman who had to take responsibility for contraception so in this day and age it's good that things are changing.
Declan Byrne, Wexford:
No way. I don't think I'd be able to; I've got a fear of injections. But that's just me, everyone is different. This is the 21st century though so it's good that these types of things are available. Some people might take it but it's not for everyone.
Salman Ali, Pakistan:
It wouldn't affect me because I'm a Muslim. But it's definitely a good idea considering all the implications of having sex. It is something I support and encourage.
Danny Cupit, Mississippi:
It's a great idea and I would take it. Men already do take responsibility, I think, with condoms. You would want to make sure it's a small needle though.
A pill would be a lot better I think. It's about time something like this came onto the market.
Wayne Massey, Coolock, Dublin:
I would take it if I thought it wouldn't add to my body weight. The missus would like the idea I think. I don't like the thought of going under the knife to have a vasectomy because anything could happen in your 40s and you might want more kids. My wife blames weight gain and mood swings on the pill so it would be nice to have some more choice.
Jamie Delahoyde, Drogheda, Co Louth:
I couldn't see men taking it, they're too irresponsible. But if it came out it would make people think. I'd discuss it with my partner but I don't think she'd trust me. I wouldn't dismiss it, it's good to have the option.
Noel Griffin, Rathgar, Dublin:
The injection would completely put me off. But it would take some of the responsibility away from women, which is only fair. Most men I know would be open to the idea. It'd definitely be a welcome addition. But there may be an element of doubt that men might not take it.
