Efforts were being made last night to evict 10 Traveller families from the grounds of a psychiatric hospital in Ennis.

The move by the Mid-Western Health Board follows complaints by the board to the Garda over an alleged assault on a psychiatric patient by a Traveller in the grounds of Our Lady's Hospital, Ennis yesterday.

A spokesman at Ennis Garda Station confirmed it was investigating complaints.
