Head of equality authority named

The director of Pavee Point, Mr Niall Crowley, has been appointed chief executive officer of the Equality Authority

The director of Pavee Point, Mr Niall Crowley, has been appointed chief executive officer of the Equality Authority. Under the Employment Equality Act 1998, the Equality Authority will replace the Employment Equality Agency. Also created under the Act is the office of director of equality investigations to hear redress of first instance in cases of alleged discrimination.

Mr Crowley was appointed by the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform. He will work with the chairwoman-designate of the authority, Ms Kate Hayes. Mr O'Donoghue has already appointed the members of the Equality Authority and set September 1st as a target for the implementation of the Act.
