Former Beatle George Harrison was yesterday recovering in Italy after undergoing surgery for cancer. The 58-year-old star had surgery in a clinic in the US to remove a cancerous growth from one of his lungs.
A statement from his solicitor said the operation had been completely successful and he had made an excellent recovery. Harrison is now recovering in Tuscany with his wife, Olivia.
"George Harrison recently underwent an operation on one of his lungs at the Mayo Clinic in the US," the solicitor's statement said. "The operation was successful, and George has made an excellent recovery. He is in the best of spirits and on top form, the most relaxed and free since the attack on him in 1999." He was treated for throat cancer in the late 1990s.
