British Conservative leader Mr William Hague is to lend his party's backing to a controversial project to shield the US from ballistic missile attack by "rogue" countries.
Mr Hague will use a speech in London to commit an incoming Tory government to facilitating the multi-billion dollar project, dubbed "Son of Star Wars" after President Ronald Reagan's similar but abortive 1980s programme.
An integral part of the system would be an extensively upgraded early warning radar station on the north Yorkshire moors at Fylingdales. PA
