A Co Dublin man has been jailed for seven years for his role in the armed robbery of his former FAS scheme employer's home.

Robert Rogers (28), of Bath Road, Balbriggan, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to two charges of false imprisonment, and one each of robbery, having a firearm with intent to rob and one of unlawful seizure of a car on November 14th, 1997.

The victims, market gardener Mr Michael Arthurs and his wife, Corina, of Lea's Cross, Swords, were bound and gagged by Rogers and another raider who were searching for a safe which did not exist. The couple had a double-barrelled shotgun pointed at them.

Det Sgt Gus Keane said their seven year-old son kicked one of the raiders when he came on the scene and demanded they stop beating his father before he too had a gun levelled at his head.
