A hand grenade blew up in a disco in the central Austrian city of Linz wounding 27 people earlier today.

None of the injured was in critical condition, but four had to undergo emergency surgery for shrapnel wounds, a surgeon at the Linz university hospital told reporters.

The blast occurred at a discotheque called “X-Large”, which is popular with young members of the Serb and Croat immigrant population in Linz. Most of those hurt were aged between 15 and 20.

Police said the blast looked like a deliberate attack but were still unsure why someone tossed the grenade into the club.
