The Green Party formally nominated the economist, Mr Richard Douthwaite, for the post of vice-president of the European Investment Bank.
The party yesterday said that following correspondence with the EIB, it was its opinion that the bank would consider applications or nominations of suitably qualified people put directly by any EU citizen or organisation.
Mr Douthwaite, who lives in Westport, is the author of three books, The Growth Illusion, Short Circuit and The Ecology of Money.
