Government to defer Dail motion on Curtin case

The Government is set to defer a Dáil motion establishing an Oireachtas Committee to review the case of Judge Brian Curtin.

The Government is set to defer a Dáil motion establishing an Oireachtas Committee to review the case of Judge Brian Curtin.

The motion was to be voted on in the Dáil tomorrow but it is believed the Cabinet has not completed drawing up its terms in time for the 2.30 p.m. sitting of the House.

The motion will be put to the Dail next week, it is understood.

The embattled District Court Judge was acquitted of possessing child pornography after it emerged a Garda search warrant used to search his house in Co Kerry was out of date.

Judge Curtin has refused to deal directly with the Government on the issue and has insisted the matter be dealt with by the Oireachtas. The move lead the Government to propose the setting up of a special Oireachtas committee to examine Judge Curtin's case.
