Internet search engine Google said it is working with Chinese authorities in an attempt to remove a block imposed on its website at the weekend.
However, the firm had yet to even be told the reason for the block, which remained in place today, a spokeswoman said.
"Our users have confirmed that we are being blocked in China. We are currently working with Chinese authorities to restore service," said vice president of Corporate Marketing, Cindy McCaffrey.
The company had not received any specific information on why Google was being blocked, she added.
