Golfers from around the world have been invited to play in a huge amateur tournament in Belfast

Golfers from around the world have been invited to play in a huge amateur tournament in Belfast. The prestigious event, to be played at three courses on September 12th-14th, is aiming to attract golfers from across the Atlantic to compete with Northern Ireland's finest amateurs.

All 2,600 golf clubs in Britain have been invited to send representatives, and the inaugural tournament was heavily marketed at last week's British Open at Carnoustie. Speaking at the official launch at Belfast City Hall yesterday, Belfast's Lord Mayor, Mr Bob Stoker, said: "This is a great opportunity for us once again to put the spotlight on Belfast".
