Irish electrical group Glen Dimplex today confirmed it has bought British company Galaxy Showers for £5 million sterling (€7.1687 million).

The acquisition is the latest in a series of transactions in 2002 that saw Dimplex acquire a number of firms in Ireland and one in Norway. It also formed a Chinese joint-venture to manufacture night storage heaters.

Mr Sean O'Driscoll, chief executive, said entry into the British and Irish electric showers market has been a "key strategic objective" for the group.

"The Galaxy know-how and technology when combined with the group's existing brands and customer base gives us the opportunity to create a significant business in this rapidly growing household product category," he said.
