Paris - French officials yesterday struggled to defuse a worsening scandal after a senior police officer and two of his men were remanded in custody over a Corsican fire which destroyed a restaurant.
Col Henri Mazeres and two other police officers have been formally placed under investigation and remanded. Col Mazeres was being investigated as a suspected accomplice in the explosion and fire.
