An application by the financial controller of The Irish Times Ltd for an injunction restraining his dismissal was further adjourned at the High Court yesterday.
The action by Mr Richard Gee against The Irish Times Ltd and Irish Times Publications Ltd was mentioned before Mr Justice Quirke for the purposes of getting a date for hearing.
The judge said he would put the matter, with priority, into the next court list to fix dates, which is on June 8th.
Mr Tom Mallon, for Mr Gee, said the matter was more urgent for the Irish Times side because his client had an undertaking from the company since May 5th last that it would not remove him from his position or employ any person in his post or in a similar post.
Mr Michael Howard, for the Irish Times, said the matter was urgent because his clients would be in a position to appoint somebody by the start of the next law term (June 21st).
The court has heard that Mr Gee held the post of financial controller for 18 years but was told several weeks ago he was to be dismissed by reason of redundancy as the company intended to employ a chief financial officer.
Mr Mallon said Mr Gee was given 12 months' notice but was told he would only have to work for three months of that period.
