Army bomb disposal experts were called in to deal with a suspect device in west Dublin this evening.
The explosive was discovered on the Baldonnel Road between the junctions of Commons Road Lr and Barney's Lane. A house was evacuated and the area was sealed off.
The Army Explosive Ordnance Disposal team arrived at the scene at about 7pm and made safe the device.
The device was then removed to Cathal Brugha Barracks where it was found to be a viable explosive.
Gardaí are investigating the incident.
The device is not being linked to the Air Corps Aerodrome in Baldonnel.
