Gaelic football teams in the Garda and PSNI will today pay their first joint visit to President Mary McAleese at Áras an Uachtaráin.

The PSNI set up a football team soon after the GAA lifted its Rule 21 ban on members of the British security forces playing Gaelic games. The Garda's footballers have since played their Northern Ireland counterparts in a number of games.

Mrs McAleese hosted a dinner for senior members of the Garda and PSNI at Áras an Uachtaráin last year.

The RUC George's Cross Foundation also visited the President of Ireland last November along with the Garda Síochána Historical Society and the Garda Síochána Retired Members' Association.

That was the first visit of a RUC group to the Áras.
